During the time spent in school, teachers constantly ask, “what do you want to be when you grow up?” Most people do not have an exact answer until their junior or senior year. However, there is always a very small number of kids who know what they want to do, even at a young age. For instance, some people want to help animals. Regular veterinarians have a very demanding job. Being trusted with beloved animals can be extremely stressful. Exotic animal veterinarians have the same responsibilities, just on a larger scale. You have to work your way up the totem pole. Most exotic animal veterinarians begin working in a zoo or vet clinic. The main things all exotic animal vets are responsible for are administering vaccines, treating, and performing necessary surgeries. Not only do you help animals but you earn a good salary and get advanced schooling. Personally, I would never be able to put somebody’s pet to sleep. As a child I had the most amazing dog that anyone could ever ask for. She was 15 years old when we had to put her down and it was truly the saddest day of my life. I would never wish that kind of pain on anyone. That is why I would love to work with animals who cannot be a pet to someone. Being able to help non domesticated animals and not suffer from a broken heart would be a dream. Helping animals is my passion and helping endangered species live a good, semi-normal life would be a blessing. That is why being an exotic animal veterinarian is my dream
