It is very hard growing up in America in today’s world, especially if you are African American. You are judged by everyone, stereotyped by everyone, and made to feel like you don’t belong because of the color of your skin. When you are growing up you are taught to depend on the police to protect you, but when you are black, the police can scare you more than the actual criminals. Police officers harass, abuse, and even kill young black men all the time just because the color of their skin. They see them as crooks and criminals instead of young members of society. Police officers traumatize young black men and scare them to death for no reason and can even cause them to hate the very people that’s supposed to protect them. Officers and authority figures literally get away with murder when killing young black men in America. They plead things like self-defense and never actually get a fair trial because it is skewed from the beginning. We as young African Americans don’t get a fair chance at life when you add in all of the racial violence and tough discrimination from police that we have to endure on a day to day basis. Black citizens are being abused, beaten, and killed by the people who are supposed to protect them. Police officers swear an oath to "protect and serve" all of the citizens, not just some of them. All of the officers who have been convicted and accused of racial crimes should be removed from the force and dealt with accordingly. In American a change needs to be made, but in order for a change to be made, we need to make people more aware of what is going on and for everyone to take action and do their part in ending this act of racial
