According to Schwartz, J, faster heart rate recovery times after a cardiovascular exercise is a good indication as to whether an individual is fit and healthy or not. He also states that a physically fit person would have a faster heart rate recovery time than a person that is unfit due to the fact that their cardiovascular system is able to adapt more quickly and more efficiently; this information correlates to the data in Graph 10 as it can be clearly seen that the physically fit test subjects had a faster heart rate recovery time of 8 minutes compared to the physically unfit test subjects who had a heart rate recovery time of 10 minutes.

Schwartz, J, also states that a person’s target heart rate is important in the sense that by exercising …show more content…

It stated that people whose heart rate returns to the RHR more quickly after a cardiovascular exercise are in a better cardiovascular condition; as they have a lower heart rate during a peak exercise but the faster their heart rate recovers, the fitter and healthier your heart. In table 1, 2 and graph 7, there is a huge difference in each test subjects’ RHR before they began the exercise and their HR taken directly after they completed the exercise. Graph 8 also shows the difference in RHR and HR between the physically unfit and the physically fit test subjects; the physically fit test subjects had a lower average RHR before the exercise of 75 bpm and a average HR after the exercise of 97 bpm compared to the physically unfit. “Ideal Heart Rate Recovery Times” concluded the faster your heart rate recovers (or slows down) the fitter and healthier your heart; in graph 10 a clear difference can be seen in the Heart Rate Recovery Times between the physically unfit and the physically fit test subjects. The physically unfit test subjects had a higher recovery time of 10 minutes than the physically fit test subjects’ recovery time of 8 minutes. Even though the recovery time of 10 minutes was higher than the 8 minutes; the physically fit test subjects had a quicker recovery time than the physically unfit test subjects. As seen in graph 10 the physically fit test subjects had a faster heart rate recovery time than the physically unfit. Short bursts of intense activity are also much safer and more effective for general health, weight loss, overall fitness and especially the heart. From looking at graph10 and the secondary information it can be concluded that the physically fit test subjects’ having a faster heart rate recovery time, have a low risk of cardiovascular disease.

Myers, J, states that physically fit individuals tend to have a much lower chance of developing coronary heart disease (CHD) and that individuals that are physically unfit have a higher rate of cardiovascular events and higher death rate as they tend to take longer for their HR to return to their RHR after any cardiovascular exercise. In graph 10 it can be seen that the physically fit test subjects had a quicker heart rate recovery time of 8 minutes compared to 10 minutes from the physically unfit test
