Abstract
Ethics play an extreme role in the upkeep of police administration. It allows for honesty, loyalty, courage, resilience, performance, etc. Without ethics the world of policing would be classified as unethical due to the abuse of one's nature of a job; including police brutality. Unethical employees create a negative outlook on society, which causes some ethical issues amongst the system such as recruiting. When it comes to making mistakes on the job “regardless of the organizational response to the mistake (which can range from corrective counseling to termination), officers who strive to stay healthy have to learn to face their mistakes with humility and integrity” no matter if the mistake was meant to be unethical or ethical (Blumberg et al., 2020, para 14). This article focuses on a study about how students view ethics and misconduct in today's society of policing. Back in 1829, an “establishment of the police department began with the vision of Sir Robert Peele, who came to be known as the father of community policing” (Davis, 2014, para 2). He held a high standard for wanting to recruit new people that would “exhibit honesty, integrity, and professional conduct” (Davis, 2014, para 2).
