Darfur Genocide
For almost 15 years the Darfur genocide has been happening, starting on February 26, 2003. About 400,000 people have been killed by this war and many have been displaced. This is also considered the first genocide in the 21 century.

WHERE IS THIS HAPPENING
This is happening in an area known as Darfur. Darfur is split into three different parts; southern , northern, and central. According to UNICEF.org, there are about 6.2 million people in Darfur. “Farmers are usually settled, representing 74% of the population, while nomads represent 25% (Mohamed, 2007:363).” (Darfur development). This information shows that the majority of the population works as farmers. Majority of the population has also been bombed, poisoned, and many other things.

REBELS
Janjaweed is a group of people that go around destroying darfurian people. “The Janjaweed systematically destroy Darfurians by burning villages, looting economic resources, polluting water sources, and murdering, raping, and torturing civilians. These militias are historic rivals of the main rebel groups, the Sudanese Liberation Movement (SLM), and the Justice and Equality Movement (JEM). As of today, over 480,000 people have been killed, and over 2.8 million people are displaced.” (World without genocide). …show more content…

“To this day, the Sudanese government continues its long-standing policy of attacking innocent civilians. In addition to the ongoing crisis in Darfur, forces under the command of Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir have carried out attacks against civilians in the disputed Abyei territory, and South Kordofan and Blue Nile States.” ( End Genocide). As stated in the article, the government isn't trying to help.
