Many people in the early 1600s were moving to the New World to start a new life. Different groups settled in America to have freedoms not found in their country. They came for religious freedom, political freedom, or for new opportunities. For example the Quakers came and settled in Pennsylvania to have religious freedom. These groups came seeking a new life, but it was not always easy. The first successful colony was Jamestown. Three ships were sent by the London Company and they founded their first settlement, naming it after their king. But, the people sent were poorly equipped and as a result had some hardships. They were not experienced farmers and did not have useful skills such as carpentry. They also had a poor location for their …show more content…

However, America had no representation in Parliament. Taxes were passed and we could do nothing about them. As a result we often rebelled and and wanted free enterprise. Overtime, war broke out. Our chances to win were slim as we were fighting mightiest nation of that time. But, with the help of other major countries, such as Spain and France, we came out with a victory gaining independance. Even though there were struggles in our early history, including a civil war, we began to quickly grow and proper to the mighty country we are today. Looking back at my country’s early history, I feel so blessed to be an American. It is truly remarkable to learn about how hard our country fought to get its freedom. We get to practice our freedom of speech and we have a democracy giving us a voice. Unlike Iran and many other countries, we have the freedom to practice our religion freely. However, our country is not perfect. We have had bad relations, such as the Native Americans. We treated them unfairly taking land that belonged to them. We tried to make up for our actions by giving them reservations to live on. Our country has overcome quite a lot over the couple hundred years it has been in existence. We just have to appreciate the freedoms we have in our country, and realize they are a gift from
