Often the people that stand out from the crowd at younger ages are the people that will do incredible and amazing things. When Burton was young he was an outsider giving him time to become great at what he loves, he spent his time drawing and writing some of his childhood work that inspired films that he is recognized. The flashback is of Wonka as a child and his father who is a dentist and won’t let his son eat any kind of candy, this shows why Wonka uncomfortable with parents and growing up.
