English 112 has been a beneficial experience for me. Before taking this course, my view towards writing was very closed-minded. I used to think that school writing was very restrictive and boring. However, English 112 has taught me that writing is much more than just another assignment that needs to be completed. I've always been told that no matter what I do, I'll have to write for the rest of my life. I will be writing now until I retire, and I have always dreaded it. The business memo, research paper, and humanities literature project from this course were a reminder that writing could be interesting. This course has taught me where to find reliable resources through the JSTOR and NClive assignments. It was very helpful to know that the school provides websites to help me find credible information for my assignments and projects. These sites and the grammar module have also helped me cite sources using different citation styles, such as MLA and APA. The course also revisited MLA and APA formatting, which was also very helpful. Additionally, English 112 has taught me how to structure two new types of literature: business memos and research papers. English is something that pops up in every course. Some examples are discussion boards, writing assignments, presentations, projects, and simply writing an email. These are just some of the writing activities I will be doing for a long time, and this course has taught me new techniques, formats, grammar, and other writing skills I will need to be successful in my future classes. I honestly wish I had taken this course before I took psychology and public speaking. I would have been able to write and cite in APA format correctly, write in a timely manner, and avoid the many grammar mistakes I had made.
