While people participate in various methods of everyday reading and writing, there are extensive benefits to be gained from extending the experience to apply these abilities to literature. In the beginning chapter of Literature: A Portable Anthology, third edition the benefits of reading, analyzing, and writing about literature is explored, while also explaining literature class expectations, at a college or university level. Reading literature expands horizons by exposing readers to various perspectives, locations, and interactions, which molds opinions, attitudes, and behaviors. Taking this a step further to include analysis of the reading serves to train the brain to contemplate information and expand attention spans. Finally, writing about
Although AP English requires a great deal of reading, this can be beneficial. Reading can help inspire creativity and it also improves one’s writing, both areas in which I could use positive influence. One way to help manage all the reading is to manage time properly. Another way is to already have the books in possession so that once the book is needed, it will not have to be searched for. When writing an essay important information to keep in mind would be to stay organized, not only with your thoughts, but also with the writing itself.
A literature course is not the natural habitat for a Public Health major. These individuals are accustomed to graphs, statistics, and some concise stories that exemplify the triumph of science over disease. Issues such as gender, faith, and personal achievement are measured in quantifiable terms and discussed in peer reviewed journals, not novels and poems. Diving into literary works of art was an enjoyable change of pace from equations and experiments. The works that I found to be most artistic and significant were the most candid.
AP English and Dual Enrollment Government have prepared me the most for college. My AP English teacher opened my eyes to different types of literature and sources that is constantly referenced in my first college classes at Tidewater Community College. for example, Karl Marx is quoted a lot in the many theories of sociology. My Dual Enrollment Government course prepared me for this ample amount of reading in college. My professor would provide my class with multiple reading assignments to push our reading limits.

Why I Chose My Major I chose Criminal Justice for my major because it’s appealing to me. As a child I looked up to police, and I was never scared to go up to them and just start asking questions and everyone I asked was always willing to talk back and knowing they did not even had to pay any mind to me at all being that I was so little to even know how the system worked but they did their best to explain it to me. One Police officer in particular I really looked up to Mr. Brad Garafola. He was a close family friend him and my dad grew up together. He was our neighborhood cop; he stopped by, while on patrol, at house to visit at least once a week to check up on us.
One of my strengths upon entering the AP Language and Composition Class was grammar. Throughout my schooling years, I was always able to comprehend English grammar concepts very easily. Over the year, I have enhanced these skills, now I can describe a clear distinction between the types of sentences (exclamatory, imperative, and declarative for example) and I understand ideas such as clauses and warrants as well. Another one of my strengths is speaking. I have a strong ability to express my ideas and opinions to a large group of people (my class.)
All of which helped tremendously with becoming a more precise writer and developing my identity as a writer. In the beginning of this course we worked with different readings that were intended to challenge us intellectully. Readings such as “To see your story clearly, start by pulling the wool over your own eyes” which is found the New York Times and “All Writing is Autobiography” by Donald M. Murray where readings that were meant to be challenging yet unfamiliar to us as well. This concept helped me greatly because it proved that I can be a flexible reader.
I also love drama, reading, piano & sports. I 'm sure that the AP program will give me opportunities to express my interests & show my talent. I 'm already in the gifted program & attending Caledon East PS. Through my positivity, I can contribute to the
Reluctantly, I got up and heeded the teacher’s words. My fellow classmates waited in line to turn in their paper and catching their essay length only fortified my disappointment. I need to improve myself. With ninth grade coming to a close, next year's English classes became available. AP Literature and AP Language were listed as possible courses; literature appeared to be manageable, with the teacher stressing that it wouldn't impact your grade.
In my future, I hope to continue the skills I have acquired during this English class. I think that they will be very obliging to me, nevertheless of what I am trying to achieve. In this course, I was encountered with deadlines, instructions, and assignments that I could not work around. I found that all of these responsibilities have made me comprehend that I could definitely take the next step forward in life.
What makes a piece of literature Advanced Placement worth? Easy, the literary piece must be beyond extraordinary; withstanding tests and trials, social orders, literary growth, and above all else the ever changing critics. Jonathan Swift’s Gulliver’s Travels is in fact a book worthy of AP classes due to it being a widely refuted piece that protests social order and what is deemed acceptable in literature. There is a standard for those willing or able to take an AP course; the student must be equally extraordinary as the pieces that will be assessed, seeing as they are top of the class.
A person who speaks more than one language is described as being bilingual. According to the United States Department of Education, “about 21% of school-age children speak a language other than English at home,” (Lowry, 2011). As Wayne Thomas and Virginia Collier describe in, “Two Languages are Better Than One,” children who come into school having a first language besides English, tend to struggle. Usually when a child struggles with a particular subject, they are taken out of the main classroom and brought somewhere for a remedial class. But according to Thomas and Collier, in order to help narrow the gap in comprehension, English learners and English speakers need to be kept together in order to be fully enriched in a successful learning
The art of argument persuasion I’ve learned in this course is so beneficial for my marketing major. Other than that, it made me develop the essay writing skills necessary for success in my studies at the university level. This English course also taught me how powerful written words can be, and how the delivery of the tone is important for the reader. The tone of a narrative is different than the tone of a research, where the difference makes the paper. Also, the power in written words tells how much it is crucial to mankind.
