Some exotic animals do not do well if their mental needs are not met (monkeys, parrots), and may become destructive.
Some Exotic pets (particularly large carnivores and poisonous animals) are dangerous, and a huge risk if they escape!
Many exotic pets die within the first two weeks of being acquired, because of lack of knowledge and proper care, or because they came from breeders who produce massive amounts of animals with minimal care, just wanting to get a sale.
Another advantage is for society. Good pet owners can provide knowledge to others about these animals such as pet spiders; beyond this people having exotics and caring for them properly, leads to more tolerance of differences on all levels. It is important to learn as much as you can about the animal, its ' needs for food, space and mental requirements. An animal whose needs are not met, will not make a good pet. Not only will it suffer, but it may become aggressive or destructive.

An Exotic pet is a good pet to get if you cannot keep a "regular" pet, but desire a companion, AND can meet its needs so that the animal benefits from being kept as a pet!
Negative Criticism Regarding Ownership of Exotic Pets
There is a lot of negative backlash towards the ownership of exotic animals. This is often because there are many sensationalized stories about these animals, most of which were because owners were not providing care, or the animals were not suited to the owners abilities to provide care or space, thus creating a problem.

There are many more bad owners of cats, and dogs, and these pets are just as likely to become problems. To be fair many people are not suitable owners for exotic pets, and many people are not even suitable owners for cats or dogs.

As well many people do not understand that when they say "Nobody should own any type of Exotic Pet" they may be lumping such animals as Rabbits, Hamsters, and Budgies, into that
