I am writing to inquire about the Language Arts teaching position at Central Catholic High school. I am
endorsed in Language Arts for the High school and Middle school level and ESOL 6—12.
While earning my Master's degree from Willamette University, I have had the opportunity to
experience a broad range of educational environments. Teaching Honors American Literature at
Sprague High school and 6th grade Language Arts and Advisory at Adam Stephens Middle school has
given me a fantastic background in working with diverse and unique learning needs. My mentor
teachers and my university supervisors have all identified my strengths in creating innovative lessons
that are student-centered, aligned with Common Core Standards, and differentiated to my individual

I feel that many of the qualities that I already possess as an educator and as a professional will aid me
to become an asset to your school, such as:
• Experience teaching reading and writing workshops for a diverse group of students. In my
current student teaching placement at Adam Stephens Middle school, I currently teach 6th
grade reading and writing workshops. I am particularly proud of a recent unit on argumentation
in which I was able to use multimedia text packets in order to help my 6th grade students (75%
of whom are English Language Learners) write synthesis essays about whether or not the
school should allow students to play tackle football.
• Background in teaching grammar in a student-centered way. During my teaching practicum at
Sprague High school, I taught a unit on grammar (specifically complex, compound, and
compound-complex sentence types). During this unit, I experimented with making the topic
more student-centered by including acting games, using internet resources, and having students
generate themed sentences. Over my two week unit, my students averaged a 22% increase
