When you gangbang, you subject yourself to danger on a daily basis. When you gangbang, you can get hurt or killed in many different ways. You can get hurt or killed by so-called homeboys from your own gang. There are many rules that come with gangbanging. Rules are very important to every aspect of life, and gang members find rules to be just as important. When you gangbang, you have to follow the rules established by gang members before your time. If you somehow break these rules, there is a great possibility that you will be disciplined. Discipline comes in many shapes in forms, and in gang life discipline often means: (1) A fight with your homeboy from your gang. (2) A fight with more than one person from your gang. I was told to pick fights with any random person so I could get used to fighting and so I could learn how to win a fight fast and easy. I learned quickly that if I did not listen to the guys around me and pick fights with other people, I would end up fighting my own homeboys who made the request in the first place. I would be tested by other members of my gang like this: Me and a lot of my homeboys would be hanging out on one of the street corners we liked to call “the ‘ave”. We would hang on the ave to sell cocaine or weed. We would also shoot dice while smoking weed and drinking. Most people go up on the ave to hang around and talk. One day, out of nowhere, one of my older homeboys came to me and said “Lil’ Paul, are you just going to allow that fool to bump into you like he just did?” I was confused and said “Nobody bumped into me. What are you talking about?” My homeboy replied “Yes, he did. I seen him, and you better not let him get away with it, so what I want you to do is beat his ass as soon as you see him come out of that store or me and you are going to be fighting because you never allow anyone to bump into you and disrespect you like
