4. How would your option affect the lives of the people of North and South Korea?
The option could affect the lives of people in North Korea by putting them in a state of feeling threatened. The North Koreans will believe anything that their leader will say and do whatever the leader orders. If the leader feels threatened, there is a high likelihood that the citizens do to because they don’t really have the freedom to think otherwise. Since the leader would view the United States as invasive and violating the basic rights of being a country, the North Koreans would view the United States as the enemy if military force is used and their leader will use that as motivation for the people to fight against the United States’ troops if North Korea is wanting to go to war. Countries that trade with North Korea, such as China and Russia, might not want to stop trading with North Korea or might want to help North Korea if there happens to be a war between the communist North and the capitalist South. This is a major problem with the plan that could cause it to backfire. A way to make sure the plan doesn’t fail in the case of China, which happens to have the ability to end the problems now, is threaten China to stop trading with North Korea by halting our trade with them, which would make both of our economies incur huge losses and result in a war but could possibly get our point across. China would still most likely not listen because North Korea is their buffer zone and without it, the U.S. controlled South Korean government would rule the Korean Peninsula and the geographic barrier between China and the U.S. would disappear. Another way we can try to convince Russia and China, North Korea’s allies, is to explain to them that if they support North Korea and the Korean Peninsula is reunified under their terms, the government could possibly collapse and the much feared entry of refugees may occur due to the proximity of themselves to North
