Islamophobia in America
On September 11th 2001 the World Trade Centers fell and the world was never the same. Americans were in shock and with the help of the media word spread like wildfire that the suspects were radical muslim terrorists. In no time Americans had a common enemy and chaos ensued. Muslims nationwide become targets of violent hate crimes and discrimination. Islamophobia had existed before but never on this level. 9/11 was the straw that broke the camel's back. Today we have a president that rose to power with the use of islamophobia which showed us how many Americans felt about Islam. Islamophobia was created and has survived because of Politicians and the media working hand in hand to connect Islam with terrorism. With the increase of anxiety and tension in America, Americans have became fearful of the Islamic nation and its people, with fear being present in the people of the United States political powers and the media start to use that fear for their self-interest and have produced a cycle of islamophobia. …show more content…

If that wasn’t shocking enough Trump later placed a 90-day ban on immigration and on refugees from seven predominantly Muslim countries and an indefinite ban on Syrian refugees(Regan, 1). Tom Regan from the Washington Report on Middle East Affairs questions Trumps order stating “Did Trump use his power to hide his true intent--to specifically ban Muslims? (Regan, 1)” This order sparked outrage in America with people protesting at airports and 24/7 Deli owners closing down. Although Trump denied that he was banning muslims everyone knew he was lying. For Muslims in these seven countries it was the end, no land of the free to escape to and no hope of a better life. Some will try to find another way others will turn to violence and terrorism which only adds to the already ruined reputation of
