Religion is a basis of faith. Today the world is prosperous in many faiths and religions. This report explores the wondrous and ancient religion that is Judaism.

The Creation of Judaism

The birth of Judaism began with Abraham. According to Jewish tradition and the book of Genesis, Abraham (originally Abram) was a man who at 99 years old had placed a covenant with G-d. This promise G-d had made to Abraham was what sparked the chain reaction of events that formed the religion known as Judaism.
In the words of the Bible, this was what G-d had said to Abraham,

“I will make a covenant between us and I will give you many, many descendants/But me, my covenant is with you; you will be the ancestor of many nations. And because I have made you the …show more content…

However, Abraham’s wife Sarai was old like him and couldn’t bear children, so in order to give him the descendants G-d promised him she consulted her servant Hagar to lie with him and she bore him his son Ishmael (known as the descendant of the Arabs). G-d later again promised a son to Abraham, although this time he confirmed it would be with Sarah, and she later gave birth to Isaac (SparkNotes). Isaac later went on to become the descendant of the Jewish people. When Isaac had grown up he married Rebecca who bore two fraternal twin sons, Jacob and Esau. Jacob, later known as Israel had fathered twelve sons, who went on to found the 12 tribes of Israel. As centuries passed, the descendants of Israel known as the Israelites became slaves in Egypt and then found salvation through Moses, G-d’s chosen one. Moses led the Israelites out of Egypt to Mount Sinai, this was where G-d revealed both the written and oral Torah to the people and it was there they made a covenant with him like Abraham had made long before. This new covenant promised that the Israelites would be the most beloved of nations, as long as they listened to G-d and remembered his covenant with them.
