Experience with Job Shadowing For any field of work that a student joins, job shadowing and observations are good ways of getting hands on experience in the field. I believe that it is especially important and necessary to have shadowing and observations when working with families and children. Observing gives us students the opportunity to see the difference that we can make with families and children. At The Therapy Spot I was able to imagine myself as a future Occupational Therapist (OT) and see how I will be able to make a difference in the lives of children. At this site I was able to work with an OT and witness what he does on a regular bases to help children with their developmental milestones. I will have to say that I enjoyed my time at my site. The OT, COTA, and other staff were very welcoming and showed me a little bit of everything The Therapy Spot had to offer. On one occasion, because the OT and COTA had cancelations I was able to observe the Speech Therapist work with a few of the children. It was interesting to see how there was uniformity between Occupational Therapy and Speech Therapy. They had similar was of discipline and technique to talk with the children. One specific thing that I absolutely enjoyed at this site was seeing the progress in children in the short amount of time that I was there. The first time I went they were timid and quiet because of my presence. At the end of my time at The Therapy Spot the children were interacting with me and doing activities with me. There was one child whom in the 5 weeks I was there I saw improvement. This child was constantly in timeout because of hitting and spitting at the beginning of my time there, but slowly her timeouts decreased and she seemed to be doing less hitting and
