Medea is a Greek Tragedy Play written by Euripides. The play takes place in Corinth, Greece. A nurse in this play explains the events and what mainly lead to the crisis in this play. Previously, Medea and Jason achieved many adventures and she was the one who helped him secure the Golden Fleece, by killing her brother, and she also fled her country and family for Jason. She and Jason had two sons together, and settled in Corinth, where they gained a respectable reputation. The play starts with Medea, granddaughter of Helios (sun god), princess of Colchis, and wife of Jason, has been left and abandoned by her husband, due to him marrying another woman. Before she leaves Corinth, Medea is granted one day before she is exiled to plot her revenge on Jason. Jason thinks it is in everyone’s best interest that he does marry and he also thinks it will advance his station in Corinth. Jason offers helps to Medea, but she refuses. To get back at Jason, Medea plans to kill not only his new bride, the bride’s father, and their two sons. That is the only way she thinks Jason’s pain will outweigh hers. The only problem is that Medea doesn’t think after what she is about to do, any other city/ state will take her in. That is until Aegeus, king of Athens offers Medea a place in Athens, in exchange for her help in knowledge of drugs to help him and his wife have children, which is what he had been searching for. Medea then takes action in her plan by inviting Jason over and pretending to sympathize and offering his wife gifts, including a dress and tiara. All of this in exchange to let their two sons stay in Corinth. Little did they know, that Medea had poisoned these gifts and had their two sons go take them to his bride and beg her/ her father to let them stay in Corinth.
