There are numerous Americans that have died due to the lack of healthcare, to which they could not afford. Countless lives could have been saved if these people had better access to healthcare, surgery and/or medication to treat their physical condition. Improving America’s health will overall better the lives of citizens throughout our nation. Medical care should be free for residents of the United States. “Life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness,” this phrase is stated in one of the most important documents in american history, the Declaration of Independence. It supports idea that everyone is born with the right to live and not having free healthcare for people that can not afford it is taking away their most valuable right. Despite this information 44,789 people have died, because of the lack of healthcare in the U.S. that the government can not provide. The uninsured have a 40% higher chance of dying, because of medical issues (Procon.org 1). America is one of three countries (Greece and Poland) in the OECD (Organization for Economic Co-Operation and Development) without medical care throughout the nation. In the absence of imperative medical care the mortality rates will continue to climb until the situation is addressed in America. Along with benefiting residents of the United States, free healthcare would positively affect our economy. By having healthcare provided for employees, they would not miss work as frequently, because of medical issues. America is losing billions of dollars each year, because labors are sick or not able to work due to severe illness or premature death. Uninsured workers have been proven to miss more work days than the insured.
