Millennials are concerned about the regulations on net neutrality will be removed, and what that will mean about how the internet will work afterwards. Will taking away net neutrality affect the way providers charge or will the internet regulate itself? Taking away net neutrality is sort of taking away our basic freedoms or the 1st amendment, and if we lose that we can revolt until we get it back. Without net neutrality internet providers would be able to charge you for certain websites or information which is not a bad thing in itself but, people are greedy and the providers would go overboard and most likely block things like Google or Bing unless you give them more money. There is a chance that internet providers will realize that if they charge for everything that they will lose customers and therefore profits. If providers realize this then only the unnecessary sites will be blocked and the informational and useful sites will remain unblocked. With the option to make a few more dollars the providers may not take that option though. In the Verizon vs FCC court case ruled that the FCC didn’t have authority to only allow a certain part of the internet to common carriers. If the FCC wants to restrict what they can give providers, then providers will try to sell everything they can to as many people which means one bill for all internet access. If providers do decide to take the greedy approach they would greatly prosper from it, “more than half of all Americans have no choice in their provider, and 87 percent of rural Americans have no choice”. If people have no choice of what provider they can have and the prices go up, they can not do anything to get around the prices except for not using internet entirely. Taking away net neutrality is almost like taking away our freedom of speech, most people connect and talk to other people via internet apps like Facebook and Skype. If you take away people’s ability to post their own beliefs and views then you are basically taking that right away if they had it
