If there is something that being in the military has taught me, is that not everyone understands the same way, nor do they appreciate the same things. Just like in the Air Force, my classmates come from a variety of backgrounds and social settings. What seems like a societal norm to me, might not be normal for the non-American peer. Some of us just posted a verbal video recording without showing our face, and others felt comfortable enough to post a regular video. This tells me that in order for us to be successful we need to encourage each other and provide accurate feedback. On the blogs, I rnoticed that many of us are concerned over the economy in the U.S, and more people than I expected, actually care about the additives in their food. From this I learned that in order for me to capture the attention of my audience (my classmates), I should deliver messages that relate to the topics before mentioned because this will grasp their attention. Knowing your audience is extremely important. Audience adaptation, considering their culture, their preferences and beliefs enables the emission of a powerful speech that not only is concise, but universal. This is important because for example, I was once sent to a work briefing about family time management. Yes, this seems like a great topic to learn about, however, the problem was that I only lived with my cat at the time. Therefore, I didn’t really have a connection with the message being delivered because I had no family to give time to.
