A nurse practitioner is an advanced practice registered nurse who have received advance training and knowledge to provide health promotion and maintenance through the diagnosis and treatment of physical and mental acute and chronic illiness. Their role focuses on individualized care of a patient 's medical issue and the effects of the illness on the patient and the family. I would like to be a nurse practitioner in the future. After I finish the practical nursing program, I would then need to study for a registered nurse certification. I could go to school for two years and achieve an Associate degree ADN or for four years for a Bachelor of Science in nursing BSN. Then enroll in a Master of Science in nursing program that specializes in a number of things like immunology, microbiology, pathology, pediatrics, emergency treatment, and anesthesia training. A Master 's degree lasts for two years. Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) programs include advanced coursework in biostatistics, research methods, care of special populations, clinical outcome measures, organizational management, infomatics, and healthcare policy and economics, and completion of a research residency. Some pursue the Doctor of Philosophy as a terminal degree. PhD in nursing is the highest level education which enables you to conduct research and teach. They also participate in patient advocacy and in the development of some healthcare policies at local, state, and national level. These are the highest paid jobs the nursing profession.
