An effective compliance program is an essential component of a healthcare organization. A successful compliance program contributes to the success of a company. A compliance program must be legally effective, properly implemented and consistently enforced internally (OGC Solutions, 2020). In order to achieve this, a compliance program must abide to the 7 elements of a compliance program. A compliance toolbox should consist of policies and procedures, a compliance officer, education/ training, reporting, monitoring and auditing, enforcement, responding to issues, and risk assessments. Incorporating these elements helps ensure that the compliance program of a healthcare organization will run efficiently and effectively.
In a healthcare compliance program, policies and procedures are essential. It is important for organizations to have written standards, policies, and procedures that define their commitment to compliance. An effective compliance program should be overseen by a designated compliance officer. A health compliance officer helps to make sure that their hospital, clinic, or other agency is complying with federal and state laws that are relevant to healthcare.
