Sex Trafficking in Tennessee
Introduction
Human trafficking is the illegal buying and selling of people for exploitative or other nefarious purposes and is one of the modern forms of slavery. Most of the approximately 800,00 people trafficked over international boundaries each year are under 18, and 80% are women or girls (Browder, 2018). One of the many things that can make a person susceptible to trafficking is their financial situation. Victims of trafficking might come from any socioeconomic class, but the lack of resources, especially employment prospects, is intrinsically tied to the crime. However, some women and girls fall victim to trafficking because they are desperate for money to support their …show more content…
This program has been very instrumental in ensuring that there is the safety of young people, especially females. They offer support in terms of what the traffickers promise to give them (Houston-Kolnik et al., 2020). To get money, some sex traffickers force young girls into a life of prostitution, where they are sold multiple times per night and beaten if they resist or refuse. The program has a good effect since it trains officers to spot the indicators of trafficking and helps bring charges under the state's sexual servitude statute when the perpetrators are male. The state is responsible for funding the rescue program. Much money has been raised for various anti-sex-trafficking programs. Nearly all anti-trafficking groups operate solely on charitable contributions. Fundraising events are essential to the survival of
