STOP-IT (Salvation Army) STOP-IT is the Chicago chapter for Salvation Army, this program is fairly new which means no one has done a study. The UN Women’s Independent Evaluation Office conducted a study on a program called UN Women. Both programs, want to end human trafficking and want to help all victims. Their main emphasis is giving a safe home to live, therapy sessions, and giving food. In particular, they want to strengthen their services and spread awareness throughout the world. In the study, they looked at the incomes in different countries and chapters to see how it affected women, looked at the average income within the countries that have the most trafficking, and interviewed the people that help them. People in South America or in Africa, need money so they won’t think twice about working for sex. This program goes to countries and offers therapy sessions, so they know when someone is trying to take advantage. Victims in other countries believe that this was the best thing for them and they were glad that they got help. About 1 million people were victims of human trafficking in Africa, but in 2017 about 700,000 people were trafficked (Evaluation Office, 2012). Significantly, in the countries they travel to, they have seen a decrease in victims. Generally, this program works better in other countries rather than the United States, but they strongly impact people. Kansas State University professor Nadia Shapkina analyzes the effectiveness of all human trafficking programs throughout the United States and other countries. All these programs want the survivors to recover quickly and be healthy. They all may have very different approaches, but they still try their hardest to help victims of human trafficking. They
