Therefore, when I first met my supervisor named Zadock and he told me that there were more than 200 children at the children home, I assumed that there would be a large amount of work to complete before the school year started. However, Zadock explained to me that the first couple weeks I would be observing and supervising the children during their holiday program. At first, I was a little disappointed because I wanted to get an insight and a better understanding of what the social workers at Noah’s Ark do. He further explained that I needed to form relationships and get to know the children before the school year got started so it would be beneficial on both sides. One thing I found similar between practicing social work in Uganda and North America is the significant importance of children. In both country, there is a high value about providing needs and services to children. Through, Noah’s Ark I see how the organization highly values children. However, one difference that I do see is how the Uganda culture values the importance of relationships with each other. For example, everyone greets each other and ask how are you doing. For example, while I was in the nursery school at Noah’s Ark, a three-year-old came up to me and how are you doing? I was completely shocked when a little child ask how I am doing. As a result, I have also noticed that if I greet someone then they are friendlier with me. In America, everyone is so busy to complete the next task or assignment that there is not a significant matter on greeting each other. In American the high priority is to get as much work and assignments completed and less time getting to form
