Texting and driving is a big problem not only in South Dakota, but also all over. So many accidents result in deaths that happen each day that can be prevented if cell phone use was completely banned while driving except for certain emergencies. Right now South Dakota does not have a hand-held ban, but they have a law that bans all learner permits and immediate drivers to being on a cell phone at all while driver and then they have a texting ban for all drivers. I think South Dakota needs to ban all cell phone use for all drivers with some exceptions. (NCLS 2015)

First off, it is illegal to text and drive in South Dakota so why do it. Why do something illegal when you know you should not be doing it? You are putting so many people lives on the line by you choosing to do a selfish act that can wait until you are parked. Each year so many deaths happen because someone choosing to be on their phone while driving and many people that have died are innocent drivers. It is not fair to those innocent drivers to lose their life over something that someone should not be doing in the first place. Just imagine having to live with knowing that you killed someone by doing something that you should not have been doing in the first place. It is not worth sending a message knowing you are putting yourself and everyone else out on the road life on the line. By people, choosing to stay off their phones completely while driving will eliminate so many more car accidents and deaths. In addition, parents and teens need to be setting good examples for others no matter if they are young or old. You need to stay off your phones and let others know that it is not safe to be on them while driving. If parents stay off their phone, their children will realize that you should not be on them, but if they are on their phones while driving kids will think it is no big deal either to do themselves when they are driving.
