For years, there has been wars. Wars within nations and wars with others, but it is the internal wars that forever change history. The American Civil War is a great example of a war that caused a dramatic change. Although, many may disagree and argue that it was not very significant it is the change that occurred in the nation that can prove otherwise. The American Civil War did not occur in a day, it took years for the war to begin. It took significant events that caused the war to occur. The submitted request created quite a national debate. The reason it created a debate was because prior to Missouri applying for statehood the north and south were evenly divided, there were eleven free states and eleven pro-slavery states. So, in this case it meant that Missouri as a state would tip the balance and there would not be an even amount of voted in elections. In order to maintain order congress passed a set of agreements that allowed Missouri to be admitted as a slave state and Maine as a free state. Although, the compromise seemed to address every issue it was the future issues that it could not solve. When the compromise was established concept was incorporated that a line along the 36’30 would divide both the south and north, it also established that every state below the line would be a slave state and every state above the line would be a free state. This concept created many problems and concerns in the future.
