Slavery has had a huge impact on American history. Africans have struggled and suffered from the second they arrived in the U.S. They were brought here to serve and do the labor others didn’t want to pay for. Families were separated in auctions where Africans were sold and bought like livestock to work on plantations in horrible conditions. If they were to try to escape they were beaten, some more than others to made an example out of. After going through all this the Africans American never gave up on idea of freedom, they prevailed to see that this idea came true, with the help of others with the same intentions. African Americans have always wanted to be free, but to them freedom was to be treated as equals with rights. Freedom was something that the U.S. praised so much about after gaining it from the British, they even put in the Constitution that “All men are created equal”. As the U.S turned on the one thing that the fought so hard to gain, slaves were now in the battle for freedom as well. But the African Americans were not alone in this battle as they had allies in the North who thought that slaves should be free from slavery.
