The Progression of Writing: English Self-Assessment
As I reflect on writing an essay, there are many aspects that I have learned to appreciate and acknowledge over the course and that is being able to express myself, understanding ideas that various writers have proposed, and using different creative ways in talking to the reader. Because of these factors, I have learned to focus on my main interest while writing and that is the desire for the reader to understand me and even better having a chance to become more open-minded based on my perceptions on what I am writing about. I have always had a desire to be a good writer but there are many challenges that I am still undergoing to achieve this. A statement can be by fact true but an argument requires questioning and reasoning. The reasoning of any argument that I write has to be clear to the reader or else they will not examine or question it. Ona way that I attempt in accomplishing this is by strengthening the thesis of my essay. Thesis which are sentences that explain what I am writing about and why it is important provides me with a chance to get the reader’s attention. My essay “Born Free: Die Confined” contained good analysis, but the thesis could have been more developed when asking the question of why it was so important. Before turning in the draft, I thought the essay was good because of the analysis it contained. There was no reason for me to add onto what I already wrote without really explaining the rhetorical techniques M.I.A used through developing a stronger thesis. So looking at my thesis and in asking the reader to examine their opinion of the topic I am writing about furthermore helps in the process of presenting
