The Smithsonian Museum of American History features inventions and objects which have at some point impacted humanity. Whether it is an advancement in science or in entertainment, everything featured in the museum has shaped the way people live. In fifty years, I would expect to see many inventions produced recently. Objects including the selfie stick, the e-reader, and the 3D printer are all recent creations that have impacted society either socially, intellectually, or scientifically.
First, let me take a selfie! Selfies, or pictures of oneself taken by oneself, have become popular within the past few years since iPhones have come about. Unfortunately, it is hard to fit oneself, or a group of people, in the frame of the iPhone given the average person’s arm length. The selfie stick ended this problem after its invention. This long handheld pole attaches to an iPhone and takes further away frontal pictures. Since it solved this problem which many experienced, the selfie stick quickly popularized among people around the world.
