Collegiate sports produce a lot of money from the students who play for them. These students only and for that reason College athletes should be paid outside of scholarships because the college sports industry makes a large amount of money, and these athletes invest a lot of time and risk into their sport, along with the fact that if athletes were paid they could afford their education. The average college athlete will put in 4-9 hours a day and that means in a week they can put in about 25-65 hours a week depending on if they slack off or never stop trying to improve themselves. Athletes put in so much time and effort into their sport that they don't have time to have a job especially if they’re also taking a decent amount of classes. If athletes would be paid then they could stay in school if they don’t go pro and they wouldn’t have to worry about getting a scholarship from a lower school that doesn’t offer what they want in a school but since it’s a scholarship it would tempt them to make a questionable decision but, if they knew they would be paid then the chances of them choosing what they want they not only would get to learn what they want but get to play for the team they want. Athletes wear gear from Nike, Under Armour, and Adidas and the athletes don’t get paid to rep their gear and equipment the college does though but the athlete gets no economic benefit from this gear.
