Why do we have death penalty and why do jurors have the option of convicting? Jurors are the ones in charged of deciding if a person is guilty or wether or not the facts are true. When a person is paroled, it means the person is released from prison temporarily or before completing the sentence. In every state that retains the death penalty, jurors should have the option of sentencing convicted capital in prison without the possibility of parole. The sentence is cheaper to tax payers and keep violent offenders off the streets for good.
Innocent people have been convicted and executed. Their has been a large number of death row in the United States of America since 1973, all death row exonerees were non-white. The most common causes of wrongful convictions are; eyewitness error, government misconduct, or false confessions. “If statistics are any indication, the system may well be allowing some innocent defendants to be executed” (Justice Sandra Day O’Connor). Many families who have lost loved ones do not feel that the death penalty would cover their wounds. It is thought that using the funds from the executions could be used to put the families back together through counseling, resolution, crime victim. “Attention is directed on the crime and the accused, instead of where it belongs on the family and loved ones of the victim and on the community” (Death Penalty Can Prolong Suffering for Victims' Families). The combined supporters help the families and friends by telling their stories. We oppose the death penalty for a variety of reasons. One reason is because endless trials can re-open emotional wounds and take away the time for real healing.
