A drug by its definition is a substance that has a physiological effect when taken. Even though people think that Marijuana should not be legalized because it is classified as a drug, others think that it is perfectly safe. Marijuana should be legalized because it has major major economic values, beneficial health properties, and the many drug and cartel violence that is involved with prohibition. In the first place the government spends an exuberant amount of money on prohibition. If the government would decrease spending on prohibition it will result in tax revenue (Miron). So if the prohibition of marijuana was nonexistent the spending on enforcing the fight of prohibition would save 7.7 billion dollars (Miron). Even more money would be saved if the resources, arresting, and prosecution of people who go against the laws of marijuana prohibition were also nonexistent (Miron). Studies of medical marijuana or canaboids have found anticancer properties and therapeutic properties (Armentano). Medical marijuana compared to other narcotics are safer than the ones that affect the liver and the Brain (Gerber and Armentano). Tobacco has claimed 400,000 victims every year when marijuana has claimed zero (Gerber). Even over the counter drugs has killed thousands of people due to overdosage when canaboids, on the other hand hasn’t taken a life (Gerber). Therapeutic benefits potential include: Gliomas, Alzheimer's, Fibromyalgia, Dystonia, Hepatitis C, Diabetes, Osteoporosis, MRSA Multiple Sclerosis, ALS, Chronic Pain, Tourette's Syndrome, HIV, Hypertension, Sleep Apnea, and Rheumatoid Arthritis are really the reason scientists and doctors are pushing of the legalization of marijuana (“Potential Therapeutic Uses of Marijuana”).
