The famous play Macbeth, written by William Shakespeare in 1606, is about a general, Macbeth, who goes from a kind and loyal soldier into a murdering, backstabbing tyrant. Macbeth starts as a brave and well-respected general and thyme. Then, he moves on to murder his king, which made him the king, and an innocent mother and child. After that, he was overthrown and killed. Although you would naturally blame Macbeth since they were his actions, multiple people could be to blame. The people who are most to blame for Macbeth’s rampage are the three witches, since they were the ones that he would be king, they told him whom to fear, and made him feel invincible. Although the witches were not the only ones responsible for his rampage, Lady Macbeth also holds some responsibility since she convinced him to kill King Duncan. …show more content…

As it is clearly stated when the third witch states, “All hail, Macbeth, that shalt be king hereafter.”(Act I, Scene III, line 50). This has a profound effect on Macbeth; it makes him believe that he has to kill Duncan to make their prophecy come true. Even if it were a real prophecy, he could have just done nothing, let things take their course, and become king peacefully. Right after that, Banquo asks Macbeth, “Good sir, why do you start, and seem to fear/Things that do sound so fair?” (Act I, Scene 3, Lines 51–52) This shows us that Macbeth was taken aback at the thought of becoming king at first, but the seed was planted.
