Why has college become the norm? Many would simply answer that a college education may be the only alternative to a successful life, arguing that everyone should attend college no matter what circumstances they are under. Others may debate that dropping out of college should be a decision made by someone in order to better their lives. This nation should eliminate the preconceived notion that college is for everyone, because although many teens attempt to further their education, some seem to fall short due to other circumstances. American families see college as the only route to living a successful life. While most students desire to live life their own way, they do not want to disappoint their families. Students listen to the surrounding community and make a decision that they may end up regretting. Many drop out of college because what they assumed they were getting themselves into is very different from the experience they will have. Often people do not realize that college is an engagement that demands full attention. If the mind is not fully concentrated, one could find themselves on a downward spiral and failing their classes. Many students cannot accept and see themselves as failures. They drop out because many opportunities offered to them may have a better advantage than college. Blake Boles implies in his novel, that although many jobs require a college education, there are other careers that are primarily based off of ambition. There is a plethora of ways to earn money without pursuing college. Humans could use their common knowledge to address the outside world through blogs, writing, and many other careers that may pay more money than a normal job. The world does not accept college dropouts, as they should. This nation only sees dropouts as failures, when in reality, dropping out of college could save time and money. We as humans need to become more accepting to the decisions other people make, and hope that their lives will become as successful as they
