Most high school students often wonder what they will need in order to be successful in college. For my English class, my English professor gave us a service learning project, where we were put into small groups with high school seniors and/or juniors. We talked about what they would need to be successful not only in a college their first college level English course, but in general college classes as well. During my service learning experience, I spoke to a couple of seniors from Largo High School, in Maryland, and learned that they are very curious about what they will need in order to be successful, not only in general college classes, but also their first college level English course. My best advice for being successful in college was to have good time management and to speak to their professors whenever they have a question about the class. Having good time management can and will affect ones experience and grades in college. People often procrastinate and leave all their work form all their classes to do until the last day. This a major mistake on their behalf, procrastination does not work for everyone and most times does not work with multiple assignments due in multiple classes. But planning out ones classes and assignment due dates carefully can defiantly help. The group I worked with asked me how to have good time management, I told them to have a planner or set constant reminders and alarms on their phones to easily remind them. If students are able to keep on top of their work and do them early or set a schedule for their assignments, then they will not only be able to do their assignment without rushing, which often leads to mistakes, but also have social time to hang out with their friends. The other piece of advice to them was to speak to their professors and utilize their office hours. Professors are more than happy to help their students and aid them in any questions or problems they might have with either the class or the material being taught. Writing a good rough draft may help students not have too much work to do later on, on that paper and having a work cited page to give credit to those who deserve it are critical piece of information one needs to now in order to be successful in a college level English class. At the same time, god time management and speaking to ones professors are a couple of things that one needs to be successful in college overall. Good time management ensures students doing all their work to the best of their ability and speaking to their professor ensures a professional relationship with ones professor as well as being able to get help when needed.
