Ethical Decision-Making Analysis

Ethical decision making is important to counselors for a couple of reasons. The first, has to do with the core of what being a counselor is about. The American Counseling Association (2014) Code of Ethics says in code A.1., that the foremost feature of being a counselor is to “promote the welfare of clients” (p.4). Furthermore, it elaborates on this idea further when code A.4.a. mentions, to avoid precipitating harm to their clients, is a practitioner’s responsibility. Jones, Shillito-Clarke, Syme Hill, Casemore, and Murdin (2000) state that clients are harmed by unethical practice. Thus, ethics are important to fulfilling the primary aspect of the counseling profession. Secondly, ethical decision making is important to the practitioners,
