Relevant Facts PizzaWorks is a local chain restaurant that primarily does business thru delivery. PizzaWorks has a long-standing policy of offering a twenty percent discount when a customer orders two or more large pizzas for delivery even though it has never been advertised. A new housing development was recently built close to one of PizzaWorks’ restaurants that is now home to many wealthy out-of-staters. Since these new residents are used to high prices, the treasurer suggested that the restaurant not automatically offer the discount to anyone ordering delivery from the housing development. If Susan was to get rid of the discount altogether she could claim it had to be down for a clear conscience. Since Susan knows that if the discount was to be offered to the residents of the new homes, PizzaWorks could miss a small increase in profits that could really benefit the restaurant. Since Susan does want the restaurant to gain these profits but it would go against her moral beliefs to exclude a certain group of customers because they just don’t have the information, she could just get rid of the entire discount altogether. This would put all the customers in the same place where no one was excluded or giving special treatment. Part of this also touches on the right of free consent of the customers. For one group of customers, the year-round residents, this alternative would breach their free consent. If they have always excepted the discount to be applied to their orders they would have to know why they would no longer see the discount being applied. These residents, if they had a say, would not have choosing to give up this discount because of the new out-of-staters coming in because it would end up costing them more money. In my opinions, I think PizzaWorks would have more of a long-term benefit of having customers know about the discount rather than getting rid of it. In the short term, they might make more profits from the out-of-state residents in town but would lose long time customers due to the discount being no longer offered. With the discount, still being offered, they may be making less off each sale, but they would more than likely see an increase in overall sales because of the fact the discount is advertised and more people will see it. I think that the increase in total quantity of purchases using the discount would be much greater than if the discount was taking entirely
