Ethics issues have been a problem within American businesses for a long time now. However employees have been afraid to confront their managers, employers, and even the board of directors for the larger companies. Sexual harassment is one of the most prominent issues that have risen before our very eyes lately. Women and men are taking a stand and defending their right to work in a safe, conducive environment without worrying about people sexually harassing them. Employers are no longer able to hid complaints and sweep them under a rug because people are scared. Unsafe working conditions are no longer just physical complaints, but psychological are becoming even worse.
The company I chose to take a close look at is one that has been in the news cycle daily, The Weinstein Company (TWC). The Weinstein Company (TWC) is a multimedia production and distribution company launched in October 2005 by Bob and Harvey Weinstein, the brothers who founded Miramax Films in 1979 (Weinstein, 2017). Mr. Weinstein did such a great job hiding his indiscretions that many people never heard about them. There were many people around him that knew, but clearly everyone only thought about their jobs and the company first. No one thought about the impact of his actions on these young women, some of them even teenagers would have on their lives. Hollywood only wanted more movies for their entertainment, at the expense of these women. Although in this case productivity levels were maintained, this is not the result most companies would see.
