Ethos Pathos Logos Analysis

Communication is used by everyone, every day and many people, including politicians, businesses and protestors use communication to their advantage through three techniques; Ethos, Pathos and Logos. Ethos, Pathos and Logos are forms of communication and when used correctly help communicate any message across to an audience whether it be positive or negative.

Ethos describes the credibility of the speaker and how certain things present people as credible. An example of ethos is doctors and stethoscopes and if someone were to walk up to us in a white coat and a stethoscope and say, “Do not eat carrots they actually worsen your eyesight, despite popular beliefs”. Donald Trump and his ideology are similar of that to Adolf Hitler in relation to Muslims in America. Trump wants all Muslims to wear compulsory identification as Hitler wanted with the Jews of Germany. Trump, much like Hitler, presents his arguments with passion and he manipulates Pathos into his speeches that the audience is blinded to his racist morals. Donald Trump however tends to disregard the theory of Logos in his speeches as it does not play to his strengths. I believe that Pathos is perhaps the most important and influential of the three theories as I think that it helps persuade the audience more powerfully to get behind their beliefs and actions. While I do believe that Ethos and Logos are still important for any speaker whether it have been Julius Caesar addressing his civilians or President Obama addressing people of the world. However, without utilizing all three techniques the communication of an organisation may not be as effective as a powerful world speaker such as President Obama who is known as one of the best public speakers
