April 12th, 2015, Easter Sunday, in the LDS General Conference Jeffery R. Holland, Elder of Quorum of the Twelve Apostles bore his testimony of the Atonement of Jesus Christ. Holland was born into the church, studied the Christianity faith, occupied as Institute teacher in the Church Educational System and was called to serve as an apostle by the prophet on June 23, 1944. Elder Holland testimony is bore to the members of the LDS church and non-members worldwide through the location of the meeting, television and radio broadcasting. Elder Holland's purpose was to give information and/or answer questions about the Atonement of Jesus Christ, also to explain how it can help us with returning to Heavenly Father in the highest celestial glory. December 7th 1941- A date that will live in infamy. ” This is the first line of one of the most famous speeches given in American history. This speech, given by President Franklin Delano Roosevelt declared America’s intention to enter into World War Two.
On an important day in 1961, John F. Kennedy delivered a speech to the people all over the US and around the world that still gets quoted today. He made this speech to unite and make everyone come together. In his speech he used various examples of ethos, pathos and logos that really helped the speech and people come together. He as president would write the speeches himself and wouldn’t let others write it for him and is praised by many people because of that. John F. Kennedy didn’t use a lot of ethos but the ones he used were very good because it got the point across clearly.

By doing this, people simply passing by can establish a connection to the advertisement, leading them to be interested in what it has to say. “The only thing we have to fear is fear itself,” (Roosevelt 3). On March 4, 1933 on the east side of the White House capitol, Franklin Roosevelt was inaugurated as the 32nd president of the United States. This address began the 1st of his 4 memorable and effective terms. Roosevelt ran for, and achieved various seats on the political ladder and climbed to the top becoming the president of the United States of America. Through the Great Depression and bombing of Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, Roosevelt stuck to business and made decisions that shaped today’s beloved United States.
President Roosevelt used pathos in his speech to elicit emotional responses by Congress and the American people. He showed obvious emotions of anger and sadness, but appealed to the pride of the nation to galvanize the people to take part in the massive and long-term effort to respond to the attack and ultimately defeat the Nation of Japan. He was not going to let Japan get away with what they had done to our great nation. Attacking Pearl Harbor, led the United States immediately into war with Japan through the declaration of war by Congress only moments after the conclusion of the speech and only a few days later into the larger conflict, World War II, with a declaration of war with Japan’s ally, Germany. Americans aren't benefiting from United States Health Care? Michael Moore is the director of the film “SICKO”, where he talks about how the United States should adopt universal health care. Moore chooses to gets his point across by using pathos to get people to pay attention to what he's saying. He lastly uses ethos by providing examples of how people didn't like working for the U.S health care system because it was unethical. He uses logos to gives us facts about the U.S. health care system so we know its legit.
By popular opinion, the American people of recent years have experienced two of the three most controversial presidents in the history of the United States. It would be natural to include the only black President Barack Obama because, as of late, the president's chair has been filled by men from the Caucasian side of the world. While many tried and failed, Obama succeeded in getting into office and becoming president. President Barack Obama delivered his final address as president of the United States in Chicago's McCormick Place, just a few miles from Grant Park, where he spoke to millions of Americans for the first time as president-elect years ago.
It has been said that it only takes one person, with one clear message, to change the world. In times of war, great world leaders have put this statement to the test, which each word spoken calling for an act of war or an act of peace. In Thomas Paine’s The Crisis No. 1, Paine is addressing the impending Revolutionary War, and the impending battle against General Howe. Similarly, in Franklin D. Roosevelt’s Pearl Harbor Address to the Nation, the President asks the American people to stand with him against the Japanese and join World War II.
9/11 Address Everyone around the country knows about the attacks of 9/11, even most around the world. Though it is not a fun topic to talk about, it was an important part of history and needs to be talked about. The president at the time of the attack, George W. Bush spoke about this topic after the attacks in his speech. George W. Bush’s speech, “9/11 Address to the Nation,” uses ethos and pathos to support the people of America and keep them calm and safe.
This is a day when all Americans from every walk of life unite in our resolve for justice and peace.” Those are the inspiring words of president George W. Bush in his 9/11 address after the horrific terrorist attacks on the American citizens. The address was given on 9/11/01, and Bush was assuring the American people that something is being done about the attacks and that they were not left unnoticed. Bush’s address was highly effective even though it relied predominantly on the aid of ethos and pathos, and logos was primarily overlooked.
If it weren’t for Jefferson’s Declaration of Independence, America would look so much different than it is right now. Who knows if the United States would even exist. Arguably, if Jefferson hadn’t written the Declaration, is someone else had, it wouldn’t have been as strong. And possibly, the new colony would have needed to wait longer to become independent, if they became independent at all. But Jefferson’s strong rhetorical appeals help persuade his audience that new colony deserves independent, and his use of allusions contribute greatly to his argument, making his appeals powerful and capture the attention of his audience, and to get them to agree with him.
If giving out false information to persuade an audience is untruthful then why as a society we are still reaching for the untruthful? Persuasion is alternatively what all advertisements are aiming for no matter if it is for a product or idea. Over the use of methods like ethos, pathos, and logos advertisements become more appealing and compelling to everyday people. War propagandas especially utilize the methods, ethos and pathos to support the idea of glorify American and demonize enemies. The credibility of normal citizens was demonstrated throughout war propagandas to help develop their philosophy.
“We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness”. This statement by the Founding Fathers is the core disagreement between the 13 Colonies and Great Britain. Throughout this historical document, there are multiple arguments made to get the authors’ point across. The authors’ effectively use logos, ethos, and pathos to contribute to the formation of the concluding argument. Logos is used because the thesis is straight to the point and it is supported throughout the entire document.
