In this lab, a chemical reaction between aluminum (Al) and hydrochloric acid (HCl) will occur. When aluminum is combined with hydrochloric acid, the chemical reaction will then produce elements of aluminum chloride(AlCl3) and hydrogen gas(H2). The balanced chemical equation for the reaction is 2Al+6HCl2AlCl3+3H2. The reaction produces 2 moles of aluminum chloride and 3 moles of hydrogen gas. The product AlCl3 will be boiled out of the solution to isolate AlCl. After performing the stoichiometry procedures and recording the data, the percent yield will be calculated and recorded.
A chemical reaction is a process that involves rearrangement of the molecular or ionic structure of a substance, as opposed to a change in physical form or a nuclear reaction. There are many different types of chemical reactions. A single replacement reaction is when one element replaces a similar element in the compound. A chemical reaction …show more content…

Evaporation is a fundamental part of the water cycle and is constantly occurring throughout nature. “Evaporation is the primary pathway that water moves from the liquid state back into the water cycle as atmospheric water vapor” (Evaporation. . . ). A very small amount of water vapor enters the atmosphere through sublimation.

After performing the chemical reaction 2Al+ 6HCl to get 2AlCl3 + 3H2, distillation was needed in order to get AlCl3 isolated. The stoichiometry process was used in order to find the percent composition of AlCl3. The total amount of AlCl3 in the final product was 7.37 grams. 7.37 grams was found by subtracting the mass of the Erlenmeyer flask without the product from the mass of the Erlenmeyer flask with the product. Using Stoichiometry, the isolated product was calculated to be 73.5%. The complete sheet of work validates the calculation of the percent for the isolated
