The article, “Death Be Not Proud: An Analysis of Margaret Edson's WIT” by Madeline M. Keaveney, begins by depicting who Margaret Edson, the author of “WIT,” and how she came up with the inspiration of her play “WIT.” Edson’s inspiration for her play came from her work as clerk in an AIDS-oncology unit. The article goes on to compare the play itself to the HBO TV movie of the play. Keaveney states that the two are both similar in the impression of the central message, which is how language helps everyone better, understand the meaning of life.
In the story “The Books of Elsewhere,” by Jacqueline West, the main character, Olive Dunwoody, faces many difficult, gruesome, and life-changing challenges throughout the story of the book. All of these challenges affect her emotionally. What are the emotional changes that Olive experiences throughout the book, and how are they expressed? In my opinion, Olive changed emotionally from being shy and afraid, to being heroic and brave.
When she was in Des Moines she met a man named Lawrence Davis and then they got married. After 50 years of their marriage they decided to expand their family by having four more children Larry, Jimmy, Eddie,and Sherrie. Evelyn was originally born Kay Evelyn Scott but changed it to Evelyn Scott Davis after her marriage. One of her major accomplishments in life was that she was an early childhood educator for the poor.
Women are viewed as fragile and delicate, but strong enough to keep a house clean, kids in line and a happy husband. Women are expected to be stay at home moms and depend on their husbands for everything while having no opinions of their own. However, there are women who have overlooked those expectations and proved that women are capable of doing anything. Deborah Sampson and Elizabeth Van Lew are just two women who have helped break the norms of women’s roles in society. Sampson’s impressive braveness and loyalty to fight for her country against all odds have proved that women are capable to endure harsh horrors.
Her classmates would give her the silent treatment and “no one spoke to [them] no one nodded to [them]. No one smiled at [them] no one looked at [them]” (Spinelli 160). This was an example of emotional bullying. It shows me that the students at MICA started to ignore Stargirl and not talk to her. This was one of the types of bullying shown at Mica highschool.
Throughout this piece of literature, “The Midwife’s Apprentice”, Alyce (or Beetle) went from having no self esteem to having self esteem back to no self esteem. Beetle self esteem raised in chapter 5, “The Merchant”, when a merchant gave her a comb and a compliment. The compliment was “Comb those long curls till they shine, girl, and sure you'll have a lover before nightfall.” This compliment was the first one Beetle ever had received and it made her feel better about herself. She was also called a person she was not, Alyce.

In Candide Voltaire discusses the exploitation of the female race in the eighteenth century through the women in the novel. Cunegonde, Paquette, and the Old Woman suffer through rape and sexual exploitation regardless of wealth or political connections. These characters possess very little complexity or importance in Candide. With his characterization of Cunegonde, Paquette, and the Old Woman Voltaire satirizes gender roles and highlights the impotence of women in the 1800s. Cunegonde is the daughter of a wealthy German lord.

The Diary of Anne Frank by Frances Goodrich and Albert Hackett is about a small family which consists of Anne, Margot, Mr. Frank, and Mrs. Frank who were in a shock of fear, and went into hiding during the Nazi occupation of the Netherlands. Over the course of the story other characters join the family into hiding such as Mr. and Mrs. Van Daan, and their son Peter. During the time of hiding, Anne kept a diary to write down all her thoughts, fears, and feelings and was later known to be the most important piece of literature from the times of the Holocaust. The story takes you through their everyday lives of hiding in the annex which also includes arguing and times of happiness.
5. Analysis of major characters Elizabeth Bennet Even in her blindest moments, Elizabeth Bennet is an unfailing attractive character. She is described as a beauty and has especially expressive eyes, but what everybody notices about her is her spirited wit and her good sense. Mainly because of that good sense, Elizabeth is her father 's favorite child and her mother 's least favorite. Her self-assurance comes from a keen critical mind and is expressed through her quick-witted dialogue.
