World War ll was a very devastating time. During WW2, the US spent 20,388 US $ on each soldier. Germany had a total military loss of 4,429,875 men during WW ll. WW ll was the most destructive conflict in history. It cost more money, damage, and caused more deaths than any other war in history. It established 1.5 million children died during the Holocaust. Just before 8 a.m. on Dismember 7, 1941, hundreds of Japanese fighter planes attacked the American naval base at Pearl Harbor near Honolulu, Hawaii. The Japanese destroyed 20 American naval ships including 8 battleships and more than 300 air planes. More than 2,000 American soldiers were killed and another 1,000 were wounded. That battle was the Battle of the Atlantic. About 600,000 Jews served in the U.S. armed forces during WW ll. About 8,000 died in combat and only two were awarded the Medal of Honor in WW ll. The Nazis murdered about 12 million people and about 6 million of them were Jews. From 1940 to 1945, the U.S. defense budget increased from $1.9 billion to $59.8 billion. That is a good thing because that money can gut the U.S. more guns, ammo, and other things to protect America. In 1941, a privet earned $21 a month and in 1942 they earned $50 a month. More than 650,000 Jeeps were built during WW ll. American factories also built 300,000 military aircraft. They made 89,000 tanks, 3 million machine guns, and 7 million rifles. The greatest loss of life ever sustained by the U.S. Navy occurred on July 30, 1945. The USS Indianapolis was shot by Japanese submarine l-58. Caption Charles McVay, commanding officer of the cruiser, was the only U.S. Navy officer even to be court-martialed for losing a ship in war. Calvin Graham was only 12 years old when he enlisted in the U.S. Navy. He won a Bronze Star and a Purple Heart before the Navy found out how old he was. The Nazis killed millions of Poles, but they thought some Poles looked like they were German. If the Germans thought that the Poles babies were German because they looked like it, they would take them to Germany for German people to adopt them. The Germans kidnapped about 50,000 babies
