World War II was a six year war that the major countries of the world fought in. The U.S. dropped an atomic bomb on Hiroshima killing 135,000 people. Leaders around the world still debate whether the atomic bomb was a necessity or not. It was a military necessity to drop the atomic bomb on hiroshima. The first reason is it ended the war quickly, and saved more lives in the end. Japan was very large and if the Americans invaded it, many of them would’ve died (Doc. E). So if they didn't drop the catastrophic bomb, more Americans would have died. Secondly, Japanese people were willing to do anything to win the war like kamikaze attacks (Doc. For example, the attack on pearl harbor was very uncalled for because the U.S. wasn’t even in the war yet (Doc. A). In the attack on Pearl harbor, Japan took down 19 U.S. Navy ships, including 8 battleships (OI/https://www.census.gov/history/pdf/pearl-harbor-fact-sheet-1.pdf). Also, the Japanese people tortured and killed 5200 innocent American soldiers in the Philippines Cruel “March of Death” (Doc. B).
