Explain how Judaism continues to influence the everyday life of adherents
Judaism has a strict code of core ethical teachings which are derived from certain rituals and sacred texts received from God. These core ethical teachings and Jewish rituals and sacred texts continue to play a major role in and influence the everyday lives of Jewish adherents. These influences include Gods covenant with Moses who received the Torah (Jewish Law) containing the 613 Mitzvot (laws) in which all adherents must follow, rituals and observance such as Shabbat which must be partaken, and furthermore other sacred texts such as the Talmud which is a companion to the Torah elaborating further on the laws and outlines the roles and daily duties of adherents.

These texts form the Tanakh which contains the written Torah for instructions, Nevi’im for prophets and Ketuvim which is the writings. From the Torah the Oral Torah was derived and is Rabbinic commentary and study which outlines the correct laws application of the Torah for all adherents to follow. The most notable collection of Oral Torah is the Talmud. The Talmud contains Rabbinic discussion and instruction written in throughout 200-500 CE. The Talmud provides adherents instructions and guidance of the ‘laws’ in the Torah, which are aimed at promoting wisdom and peaceful living. An example of this is the Shema Prayer which acknowledges ‘love of God’. Oral law such as the Talmud continue to influence the lives of adherents as it provides guidelines for the detailed application of the broad principles of the 613 mitzvot to the day to day life of Jews. Ongoing Rabbinic discussion ensures that the core tenets of Jewish ethics can be prudently applied to changing circumstances which adherents must be made aware of in order to maintain their path to wisdom and
