Nurses are expected to provide Safe and Quality health care and part of which is the aspect of digital and technology. In Health Care, timely information about the clients is very essential. Having timely information through the use of computers will help the nurse in understanding the situation of their clients and not to do their work redundantly.
According to the journal “TIGER report informatics” there are Basic computer competencies that needs to be developed. First, The Information Literacy Competencies, it is to incorporate evidence-based practice in our profession. It is defined as the ability of an individual to locate, evaluate and use information appropriately. Thus, it will be efficient in both part of the nurse and client. It will be easier to locate the information since it is already available. The evaluation of the information presented implies critical thinking of the nurse to determine the validity of the source. According to Olanjubu, et.al. in their study “Competencies and Barrie Majority of nurses had fair knowledge in nursing informatics and perceived themselves as “not competent” in utilizing it. They identified factors such as age, the younger generations are more exposed and receptive to technologies. Lack of exposure is also included because nursing informatics was just implemented recently. Many work demands and shortage of staff are also limiting the time of nurses to utilize nursing informatics and lack of encouragement from management. With this I can conclude, that the lack of exposure greatly affects the perception of the nurses in utilizing informatics.
