Today, most would think that all humans have equal rights. Unfortunately, though, women are still not treated as equal as men. Women do not get paid as much as men do, they are expected to stay home and take care of the children, and they do not have as many job opportunities as men do. All of this is in spite of the fact that women have been fighting for their rights in this country since the 1800s. Two of the most widely known speeches are “Ain’t I a Woman” and “Speech at Seneca Falls Convention.”

From the earliest of times in society, females have had to consistently fight for equality in society. The mistreatment of women often included violence, abuse, financial inequalities, harassment, voting inequalities, and many more inequalities that men have not had to face compared to females. These unacceptable actions that are often seen as “normal” in society are a grim reminder of what women endured and still have to endure today. Many women never had a platform to fight for change and call out injustice in fear of their safety, shame from others, and the threat of breaking “social norms”. However, many influential women risked many things for the basic rights that men have been enjoying for centuries.
Before the 1900s, women were portrayed as fragile individuals incapable of taking part in any hard work or making any decisions for themselves. Their dreams of taking part in the economy, politics, and society were denied simply due to their gender. It wasn’t until suffragists such as Lucretia Mott and Elizabeth Cady Stanton decided to take a stand in 1848 and hold a meeting known as the Seneca Falls Convention. This was the first step towards a change for women’s rights that had lasting effects on American society. This suffrage movement grew influence throughout the Civil War and even post-war to the point where women all over the United States joined the suffragists in fighting for thier rights.

During Progressive Era, there were many reforms that occurred, such as Child Labor Reform or Pure Food and Drug Act. Women Suffrage Movement was the last remarkable reform, and it was fighting about the right of women to vote, which was basically about women’s right movement. Many great leaders – Elizabeth Cad Stanton and Susan B. Anthony - formed the National American Women Suffrage Association (NAWSA). Although those influential leaders faced hardship during this movement, they never gave up and kept trying their best. This movement was occurred in New York that has a huge impact on the whole United States.
The 1920’s is the most live time in U.S. History. From the movements towards women rights to Prohibition, this decade was fruitful and dancing with joy and fear. The gladness arrived from the start of the exponential explosion of the country’s economy, where the wealth of the land doubled and people could go from shoddy farms to millionaires. Following suit was the movements of women rights and their ability to vote. With every smile there is a tear to follow.

Women in the United States have been the subject of inequality for centuries. Since the country’s inception, have faced unjust social and economic discrimination, a lack of voting rights, limited educational opportunities, forced traditional gender roles, and the inability to own property. In the 1800s, women in the North began to reject traditional gender roles and saw their quest for equality like that of enslaved people, who were shackled and controlled by white men. Many abolitionist women began to challenge the male-dominated society they lived in by taking direct action by advocating for women's rights, and this fight for equality would eventually lead to massive reform in women’s rights and change American history for the better.

In 1920, women gained equal rights after a lot of protesting; 95 years later, same-sex marriage became legal in a fairly similar manner. Just like women, gays still do not have the same equality as the rest of society. After 95 years some women still receive less of a pay then men with the same position or title , and women still are belittled with derogatory sayings quotes and comments such as “women can’t drive.” Although the fight for equal women’s right will still live on until everything is equal, the comments will most likely will never stop. In the past, women were in many ways thought of as being inferior to men. Back then, the typical lifestyle among families was for women to stay at home while men worked. Women were thought of being so inferior that they were not allowed to vote but things began change in the twentieth century. It was a long process but women finally gained equal voting rights as men in 1920.
