The picture above is an example of the two rhetorics pathos and logos. This picture conveys both an emotional, portraying the cigarette as a gun, and a logical, the statistic that over 106,000 people die from cigarette related deaths each year, advertisement strategy. Pathos, mostly emotional impact on a reader, is clearly illustrated in the advertisement as through the picture of a hand holding a cigarette and the shadow of that hand is the shadow of a gun. This portrays the feeling that cigarettes are as lethal and malicious as that of the lethality of a firearm. Also, the advertisement channels the rhetoric of logos by providing a surprising legistic about the volatile deaths caused by the use of cigarettes.
All authors, at varying levels, write with purpose. Ever written work has a purpose, varying from artistic creativity to academic and professional curiosity. Although the purpose is evident to the author, the reader may find difficulty determining what that purpose is. In the case of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) public release on Attention Deficit / Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), the document’s purpose, as well as its intended audience, can be determined through an introspective analysis. One can use the three rhetorical appeals of logos, pathos, and ethos to determine the purpose of the CDC’s document, and give one’s self insight into the audience for which it is intended.

I think what I have learned most about the needs to support claims with research and validating them with proper citation is that you need to adopt a skeptical attitude toward all knowledge claims. If you want to use a source you need to make sure that it is credible you should also be able to screen sources much more quickly by testing them against your argument that is being made. Also if one has opinions to support or challenge a position, you will need to know which sources can be used. Ethos, pathos, and logos are important techniques to use and learn when trying to state an argument. I have learned the most that Pathos is an appeal to the reader’s emotions.
This book is a master guide about different families types, parents, and family hierarchy in different ethnicities and race. Giving Pathos- Some kids get raped, beat, and sold into prostitution in poorer, countries to make money. Logos- Many parents believe in corporal punishment, because it's in there religion and has had success.

Without dynamic utilization of persuasive strategies, they would not be able to acquire the support the jury who adjudicates whether or not the accused is guilty. Although both the defense and prosecution teams substantiated their arguments through the use of persuasive strategies, such as logos and pathos, deciding which techniques will most effective to justify their perspective and obtain the jury’s loyalty varied which governed the verdict.
The way that the authors used logos was the fact that both are all about the facts. A lot of the article talks about straight facts and how things happened throughout the era of the Holocaust. They talk about how rules were written to keep the children safe and how to do so without people questioning them. An exact number of how many kids were saved is not known. Other facts that do a good job and support their claim can catch the reader’s eye.

Rhetorical strategies are a variety of parts that make up an essay. The strategies include everything from explaining a process, to structure of writing. Whether the author 's purpose is to entertain, inform, or persuade, ultimately these strategies will strengthen not only the author’s purpose, but also the writing itsef. Typically when authors use these strategies, they are very precise to how they use them, and when deeply analysing a piece of writing, this is very clear. In Bell Hooks’ “Understanding Patriarchy”, she used rhetorical strategies to convey her purpose.
My argumentative its self was filled with rhetoric in the sense that every paragraph had some form of rhetoric. Not only did it show me how essential rhetoric is in papers, but it help me form an appreciation for rhetoric. In my writing 10 major writing assignment one I did an argumentative paper. In my argumentative paper I wrote about something very important to me, and that was the division that our country is now facing between both sides of the political spectrum and even genders. Ethos, Pathos and Logos, are all ways of persuading someone, playing on different tactics. Several years after the Cold War started, in 1961, President John F. Kennedy, who had only been inaugurated a couple months before, gave a speech in Houston Texas, at the Rice University, in front of a big audience, about the “Race to Space”. In this speech the president whether intentionally or not included all three forms of persuasion. The president wanted to convince the people that being the first country in space, would mean a great deal for them, that if they were the first ones out in space, the peace would be kept, and that space would not be used as a weapon, but for scientific knowledge only.
Five Cognate Strategies from the Three Rhetorical Elements I have chosen five of the nine cognate strategies to dissect and represent in this assignment. In my consideration of the available topics, I strove to include cognate strategies from each of the rhetorical elements (logos, ethos, and pathos). My emphasis strongly leans toward logos (logic), thus all three logos-related cognate strategies are represented here (clarity, conciseness, arrangement), followed by an ethos(ethics)-related cognate strategy (reference) and a pathos(emotional appeal)-related cognate strategy (tone). First Cognate Strategy: Clarity Clarity, as a cognate strategy, is one of the three logos (logic) strategies which refers to clear and simple phrasing to foster understanding in the reader. In my own formal writing, particularly in essay writing, I strive to be as clear as possible, without sacrificing academic vocabulary.
