Dear NHS committee I'm writing to you today to tell you why I think I would be a great fit for the National Honor Society. I have always received honors and sometimes high honors throughout middle school, and now high school. Before I knew what the NHS was I didn’t know exactly how having good grades could benefit me. Now, I realize that the NHS is a great opportunity for me and my future. I’ve researched what the National Honor Society wants in its members, and I think I can offer exactly what they are looking for. The qualities the NHS community is looking for are service, leadership, and character. In the few years I’ve been in high school I’ve done many things for myself and my community. Although others may not notice, that doesn’t stop …show more content…
I am willing to commit to any and all community service hours thrown my way, and I always try and encourage others to join as well. Being on the swim team (and soon the track team) for my school has made me realize that service isn’t only community service, but service can be something as simple as helping my team. During swim season I always timed swimmers during meets, helped clean up the pool area after practice, and helped newcomers learn everything they needed to know about swimming. I have committed many community service hours in middle school and a bit in high school. One being in middle school which I sang for my church and helped decorate and set up for celebrations. That was possibly my first ever type of community service. Now that I’m in high school I’ve moved onto bigger and more impactful services. I volunteer at a local bodega in my community. I’m sure through my writing skills you can infer a bit about my character, but I’m here to make sure you understand the type of person I am. I’m a very hyper and positive person, I love spending time with friends and family. Everyone that knows me would definitely agree that I’m very honest and trustworthy. I’m a reliable person and I show that through my actions. There are a multiple examples that I have of me being a reliable person so, I’m going to share a few. My Mom had recently gotten surgery and has been recovering in bed. Since she's recovering I take care of my little brother while his Dad is at work. My mom is able to rely on me to help take care of her son while she is recovering. I’m proud to say that I’m able to help my mom through these tough times. I feel as though this experience has made me become empathetic because it didn't feel like a chore to take care of my brother for my mom. I’d also like to think that I can describe myself as altruistic, because whenever something bad happens I can’t help but to think of how others feel. One example of this is when my friend had a birthday dinner planned with her family but her dog fell sick on that day. She spent her birthday in the vet clinic with her dog and she was very upset about the whole situation. Days later, after her dog got better I told her I would treat
